Review of the Visit

Relaxing Atmosphere: ★★☆☆☆

Mikokuyu is located in a corner of Ryogoku and has a cozy atmosphere. The sense of escape isn’t very strong, but the open-air bath offers a partial view of the Skytree through the lattice, which is somewhat appealing. It’s a good place to visit when you want to relax, focusing more on the open-air hot spring aspect rather than escaping daily life.

Quality of the Hot Spring: ★★★☆☆

Mikokuyu’s hot spring is a black hot spring, providing a solid hot spring experience despite being in the city. Black hot springs are gentle on the skin and are said to have high moisturizing effects, making it a must-visit for hot spring enthusiasts.

Various Baths Experiences: ★★☆☆☆

Mikokuyu offers the following baths:

  • Open-air bath
  • Jacuzzi
  • Electric bath
  • Sauna

Each bath is small, but there are more types than expected, which is a pleasant surprise in the city. The high-temperature bath is genuinely hot, which I personally like.

Facility Completeness: ★★☆☆☆

Overall, the facility is clean and well-maintained. However, there is no parking, so you need to use nearby coin parking. At the reception, people can be seen relaxing and watching TV. My son got engrossed in a sports program and watched it for an hour, but no one minded, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Food: ★☆☆☆☆

Mikokuyu does not offer food. It’s not a place to enjoy meals, so it’s best to eat beforehand or use nearby restaurants.

Overall Rating: 2.25/5

Overall, comparing it to a super sento might be not fair, but Mikokuyu is a place that fits the original purpose of a public bath—quick visits and quick returns with bath relaxing experience. Despite being in the city, you can enjoy a black hot spring, an open-air bath with a partial view of the Skytree, and a jacuzzi. It’s clean and a very good public bath, making me want to visit again.
